WHY ?

Our Campaign 2019

Rhino Horn

Rhino horn is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, but increasingly common is its use as a status symbol to display success and wealth.  Poaching is now a threat in all rhino range states, however as South Africa is home to the majority of rhinos in the world, it is being heavily targeted. More than ever, field programmes are having to invest heavily in anti-poaching activities.

Elephants:

It takes a whole elephant to make a little ivory. Your purchase has just cost the life of one of the most mystical and majestic creatures on earth. These carved picture frames are just one of the many items that come from the ivory tusks of elephants. The ivory trade is a complicated issue and most trade is illegal. Still, you can find ivory in markets around Africa and Asia, and even in the US and Europe.

MONEY

The Sponsors of our show have pledged to donate a grant to 2 chosen charities dealing with Rhino and Elephant  direct care in Africa during 2019 and then til 2025. Every year . More info soon.

FASHION AGAINST IVORY

WHY WE ARE DOING THE SHOW

Tens of thousands of elephants are being killed across Africa each year for their tusks. A century ago, there were maybe 5 million elephants across Africa. Now there are less than 500,000. Savannah elephants declined by 30% from 2007-2014, and forest elephants by 60% from 2002-2011.

While unrestricted international commercial trade in ‘new’ ivory is banned (CITES 1989), many countries continue to allow some form of commercial trade in ivory within and across their borders. Increasingly, these domestic markets are being recognized as significant drivers of elephant poaching and ivory trafficking.

For years ivory has become a fashionistas item and used for jewelry so we are using the fashion industry to pay back the elephants that have lost lives due to the trade.

THE international illegal ivory trade encourages poachers in Africa to kill up to 20,000 elephants a year for their tusks.

Now Britain is set to lead the world in stopping the bloody business - by imposing a complete ban on the sale of ivory. Still to be signed into law, the ban comes after a consultation in which more than 60,000 people favored the move.

PRINCE WILLIAM

In 2016 Prince William voiced his support for a crackdown, warning the African elephant will have

disappeared from the wild by the time his daughter, Princess Charlotte, turns 25.
